How to measure
Measuring a garment
Lay the shirt flat on an even surface without stretching the fabric, then take two measurements.
- A Body length: from the highest point of the shoulder down to the hem.
- B 1/2 chest width: straight across the chest from armpit to armpit.
Long sleeve and hooded fishing shirts
Start with a shirt you already own that fits the way you like. A size label alone is not a measurement, and fit can vary between garments and brands.
Measure a shirt that fits
- Lay the shirt flat on an even surface without stretching the fabric.
- Chest width: measure straight across the front from one underarm to the other.
- Body length: measure from the highest shoulder point beside the neckline to the bottom hem.
- Sleeve length: measure from the shoulder seam to the end of the cuff. For a raglan sleeve, note that you measured from the neckline to the cuff instead.
- Record the measurements in centimetres and note which method you used.
Flat chest width and full chest circumference are different measurements. When comparing a garment chart, check which measurement it uses and follow the chart's measuring instructions.
Choosing your fit
Think about the room you prefer through the chest, shoulders and arms, and whether you plan to wear another layer underneath. If you are between sizes, ask us for product-specific advice rather than relying on a general rule.
